Harmonices
CONTEMPORALIS hosts the exhibition Harmonices, a solo show by Jacopo Mazzonelli, realised in collaboration with Spazio Cordis (Verona) and Galleria Studio G7 (Bologna).
Jacopo Mazzonelli bases his artistic research on the balance and equilibrium of expressive media with distinct and profound narrative potential, creating multidisciplinary works that investigate the structural aspect of sound and its primordial origin in connection with the visual arts. The artist employs techniques and methodologies borrowed from different disciplines, all centred on a conceptual, linguistic or physical deconstruction of the complex universe of sound.
The exhibition relates to domestic and lived spaces, seeking that intimate dimension of looking and listening that can only be fully experienced within a familiar environment. In this way, the everyday encounter with the artwork is rediscovered, together with the long times of observation and the slow sedimentation of a formal intuition that gradually transforms into reflection and intellectual meditation.
Jacopo Mazzonelli (born in Trento in 1988) lives and works in Verona. A visual artist, musician and performer, he has for many years collected rare and precious musical instruments together with pianist Eleonora Wegher, attracted by their distinctive qualities.
Mazzonelli creates sculptures, installations and performances that investigate the wide boundary between visual arts and music. His research draws upon techniques and methodologies borrowed from different disciplines. By working on the interpretation and visualisation of sound, the artist engages with instruments that he deconstructs, transforms and recomposes.
In collaboration with composer Matteo Franceschini and pianist Eleonora Wegher, he has produced an extensive series of performance projects of which he is both author and performer. His performances have recently been presented at several festivals, including: Gamo in Florence; Tempo di Festival and Festival Nuova Consonanza in Rome; JeansMusic Festival and MA/IN Festival in Lecce; Innovasound Festival in Paris; and the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto.
His installations investigate the wide boundary between visual arts and music, addressing the interpretation and visualisation of sound as well as the rhythm and unfolding of time. He has held solo exhibitions in Italy and abroad, and his works are part of important collections including: AGIVERONA Collection (Verona); Caldic Collection (Rotterdam); UniCredit Art Collection; VAF-Stiftung Collection; MART Collection (Rovereto); Fondazione Francesco Fabbri (Treviso).
