ROMINA DE NOVELLIS
Paris Plus par Art Basel
On Tuesday 17 October, CONTEMPORALIS and Alberta Pane Gallery celebrated the participation of Alberta Pane Gallery and Romina De Novellis in the Public Programme of the Paris+ by Art Basel fair with a convivial dinner at the home of Roberta Malavasi and Riccardo Valentini. The artist created a new installation/performance entitled “Would you like to dance with me? Thank you, I would prefer not to”, which will take place in the Jardin des Tuileries.
Romina De Novellis is a performer, visual artist and researcher, born in Naples and raised in Rome, and active in Paris since 2008. After several years devoted to dance and theatre, Romina De Novellis approached performance art by studying the body both from an anthropological perspective and through the lens of Mediterranean cultures.
The artist uses ecofeminist theories as a framework to analyse and denounce the oppressive realities of our societies, as well as the dichotomies of nature–humanity, femininity–masculinity, North–South, scientific–intuitive, power–bodies and establishment–cultures. The traces of her performances are preserved in the form of polaroids, photographs and videos. Romina De Novellis also pursues her anthropological research at an academic level through a PhD in Anthropological Studies at the EHESS in Paris.
